Databases for Insurance, Health sectors
Chennai based CommSearch (India) Pvt. Ltd. is looking at developing a comprehensive database for the insurance sector in the country, and making it available on the internet. The company already has a news letter called Insurance Today, which is subscribed to by executives in insurance companies. “Currently we have financial and marketing information on Insurance in India and data on marketing officers and agents of LIC and GIC. We have been compiling this over a period of time. The propose to put this data on the internet by the end of this year, when we hope that private participation will be allowed in the insurance sector. But we will not be publishing books or CD-ROM on insurance since this sector is not big enough to warrant them,” Mr.H.Pradeep Managing Director, CommSearch (India) Pvt. Ltd. said. “Companies entering the sector then will definitely require this information,” he added.
CommSearch recently introduced Medinfo, a medical information center which will provide comprehensive information on doctors, hospitals and allied medical services in India. “In fact, there is a direct correlation between insurance and healthcare. When the insurance sector in the country opens up, companies entering the sector will certainly use healthcare databases top form their networks and formulate healthcare policies.” The information on healthcare will be made available through three sources - as a handy reference book, on CD-ROM and on the internet. Medinfo website is an exclusive site for medical professionals, institutions and suppliers in healthcare. Doctors and medical institutions can become members of this center by paying a subscription fee, ranging from Rs.250 to Rs.6000. An innovative offer to doctors is the option of having their own e-page on the internet. Service providers can also advertise in the Medinfo Index and CD-ROM. Medinfo is offering free internet based services for subscribers.
“We have working on this project for the past two years. we realised that healthcare is one area there is data available on a local level, but not on a broadbased level,” Mr.Pradeep said.
