You are the vital link or the "raw material" for the blood banks to help in saving lives.

Blood is required even before the patient arrives at the hospital in most of the instances. If people like you donate blood without waiting for a call from the blood bank, it would save several vital hours for a critically ill patient and make the difference between life and death.

Our city alone requires twice the number of units of blood that are currently available everyday.

Donating blood is painless. All you feel is a slight pinch when the needle is inserted into the arm.

It is absolutely safe to donate blood. You cannot contract any infection from donating blood or you lose your "strength" by donating blood.

Most people feel fine after donating blood. It is important to eat well and drink plenty of fluids before and after donation.

You can donate blood four times a year.

It takes just 7-10 minutes to donate blood. The entire process from filling in the form to relaxing after donating blood takes around 45 minutes.

Every unit of blood collected is separated into four components and thus saves four lives.

Every unit of blood that is collected is screened for Hepatitis B (HBsAg and Anti HBc), HIV (Antigen and Antibody), Hepatitis C, Malaria, Filariasis, Syphilis, Leptospirosis and liver enzyme SGPT.

We require thirty donors a day to be able to meet the requests for blood that we get.

If just 10% of all eligible people (between the ages of 18-60 years and free from any health problems) donate blood once a year, no one will die for want of this most precious life saving commodity.
